Hey everyone, Summer is off to a great start, Toboggan Island fest was a great success and if you missed it, you missed a great opportunity to see a shit ton of great bands packed in to one night.A huge thanks first and foremost to all of the bands who played. And of course a huge thanks to all those who helped out, too many to name, but all the people who help with poster design and postering, those who worked doors, 11 Hooks and The Exchange for being great hosts, and those who came to the fundraiser to help out with making sure Toboggan Island was a success. And since this fest was within the theme of Sled Island, I know I speak for a lot of people in Regina who are thinking of those effected by the flooding that ultimately ended up cancelling Sled Island and causing a lot of damage to a city full of great people and great talent. BUT, some things to look forward to as we come in to July and August:
I'm extremely excited to announce that Toronto punks SCHOOL JERKS will be making a stop in Regina on July 18. Grave Mistake had this to say about their latest LP:
"Rawer than Raw Punk. Harder than Hardcore. This is punk for 2012." After three killer 7" EPs, Toronto's SCHOOL JERKS finally deliver their first LP - thirteen songs at 45 RPM. For the unfortunate souls still needing an introduction to the sounds of the SCHOOL JERKS, what you can expect are thirteen blasts of primal hardcore punk, stripped down to the core leaving very little room for misinterpretation. We'll spare you the comparisons, but if you prefer your hardcore restrained in a straightjacket and locked in a rubber room, you need this LP."
I am also excited to announce that Newfoundland hardcore punks WEAK LINK will also being making a stop in Regina on July 21. Along with SCHOOL JERKS, this will be their first time in Regina and I'm definitely looking forward to having them. If you have yet to grace your ears with the serenading sound of WEAK LINK, please check out their bandcamp and give their recordings a listen. I've already listened to the Drop the Dime 7" four times today... Here's a video of a live set that I'm sure won't even do them justice when you actually get to come see them in Regina. Enjoy.
August will bring a couple more shows that I have yet to announce, as well as a distro update, so stay tuned.
If you want to stay up to date with GOD NOT GOD/upcoming shows, feel free to like the facebook page or add me to facebook to get invites. Don't forget that facebook is also really dumb.

Hope everyone had a good holiday season. Here is an update on GNG...
While the last couple months the distro has been on the back burner, I expect the next distro order to arrive by the end of the month. There has been significant delays with shipping and back orders, my apologies to those who have been waiting for records. GNG distro will be set up this Friday (January 11) at the Living With Lions show at The Exchange. In the meantime, here is a list of what to expect and a few brief reviews...

WICCANS - Field II LP
One of my favourite releases from 2012. When I put this record on for the first time, the opening tracks reminded me of Hidden World era FUCKED UP and sounded a bit overproduced. But the rest of the album is not consistent with the opening as it leads in to some really raw hardcore/punk that would would appeal to fans of SLICES or even LOW THREAT PROFILE but more melodic with psychedelic influences... Truly unique sound. Check it out.
BROWN SUGAR - Luvly 7"
Fast weird punk hailing from Buffalo, NY. A solid release to follow the last 7" which was very well received by basically everyone ever. I'm not as familiar with their earlier stuff, but I'm told that this 7" is reminiscent of both their older and new releases. Unfortunately these guys have broken up since this 7" dropped so pick up what will be the last release from one of the best punk bands around in the last couple years.
RATIONAL ANIMALS - Crossed Eyed Delights 7"
You may have picked up one of the seven inches or the Bock Rock Parade LP from this Greg Ginn worship band also from New York. Katorga Works describes this new release as a new direction for the band, one that was made clear by their aforementioned Bock Rock Parade LP. In hindsight, that LP exists in a clear transitional state between the late-era Black Flag worship of their first two 7"s and their new sound on these 7" singles, which is more informed by the 90s underground than Greg Ginn's loneliness.
LOTUS FUCKER - Forever My Fighting Spirit LP
If this LP is anything like their Answer = Bloodwashed Noise LP, it's distorted noise punk that isn't difficult to listen to. While I can't even think of another band to compare them to, I can only tell you to listen to them and let them scratch that angry itch you can't reach. It will make sense.
